Which types of roofs shed snow more easily?

Although the type of shingles that are installed is a definite factor to consider, in general, steep and smooth roofs shed snow more easily than flat or slightly pitched roofs. A foot of wet snow weighs approximately as much as two yards of dry snow, so if several feet of snow accumulate on top of a flat roof, the result can be catastrophic if the roof is not structurally sound.
